The philosophy of a graded gala is to give some of the kids who don’t always get the opportunity to win a medal or a ribbon a chance at some recognition for all the hard work that they put in. The upper limit times have been set with this in mind. It also gives those better swimmers a chance to compete in the events that they may otherwise avoid.
